MENACING MOSQUITOES

Spring is here again and along with it comes the dreaded mosquito. The City of Richland Hills advises residents to eliminate mosquito-breeding areas now to avoid diseases.

In partnership with Tarrant County, Richland Hills will continue to sample mosquito populations and work to identify and address local problem areas. Still, residents must do their part by taking actions now to stop mosquitoes from breeding around their homes.

Attempting to eradicate adult mosquitoes is costly and ineffective in controlling disease outbreaks. Preventing mosquitoes before they hatch is key to protecting humans from mosquito-borne diseases. When it comes to protecting yourself and your family from mosquitoes, always remember the following:

• Dusk and dawn are the times of day you should try to stay indoors. This is when infected mosquitoes are most active.

• Dress in long sleeves and pants when you’re outside. For extra protection, you may want to spray thin clothing with repellent.

• Drain standing water in your backyard and neighborhood – old tires, flowerpots and clogged rain gutters. These are mosquito breeding sites.
