SUMMARY:
Under
general supervision, employee works independently in a team environment on
multiple tasks while demonstrating excellent time management skills; will need
to divide time between administrative and supervisory responsibilities;
provides internet and web based support to administration utilizing both
spatial and non-spatial databases; provides technical assistance and
supervision to assigned personnel; has first line responsibility for providing
leadership and participation in work of personnel engaged in records and
specialized police work during shift; and performs related work as required.
The
Administrative Sergeant supervises police operations on an assigned shift,
assigns or schedules work to meet priorities and goals; develops performance
standards and evaluates work in light of established standards; assists
employees as needed; trains, briefs, inspects, and monitors performance of
personnel; reviews daily activities at end of shift and provides counsel;
enforces state and local laws and ordinance makes arrests and detentions,
issues citations; investigate accidents and crimes; responds to calls for
services; conducts follow-up and specialized investigations; testifies in court
as required; interprets and applies departmental rules, policies and
procedures; reads manuals, periodicals, and technical reports to learn how to
develop programs to meet staff and user requirements; prepares and reviews
operations reports or project progress reports; manages multi media images on
the web utilizing a wide range of computer skills; types and word processes
various documents and electronic information; creates statistical tools and
reports using spread sheets; manages and updates relevant data using database
applications; performs research work of departmental budget for an assigned
area; prepares specifications for equipment; prepares police and other
departmental usage reports; conducts pre-employment testing and background
investigations; must be able to meet all job functions of police officer; must
be able to maintain physical requirements of police officer.

May

REQUIRED
EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSES:
High
School Diploma or G.E.D. Texas Driver's License without restrictions except
"A". Twelve hours college course work in law enforcement or related
field; police training hours in supervision and law enforcement procedures is
preferred; Texas Peace Officer License Basic Certificate from TCLEOSE.
EXPERIENCE,
TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:
The
Administrative Sergeant must have three years experience as a police officer;
must be a self-motivated, team oriented individual; ability to plan, organize,
coordinate, supervise, control and evaluate the performance of subordinates in
both routine and emergency situations; exhibit a thorough knowledge of state
and local laws and ordinances, departmental rules, polices and procedures,
crime prevention and investigation, and all other requirements of police
officer position; exhibit a thorough knowledge of principles of public
administration with reference to departmental programs and personnel
administration; exhibit the ability to provide effective leadership and to
plan, initiate and carry out long term programs within the department; exhibits
a thorough knowledge in use of, and development of programs in Facebook,
Twitter, and other social media venues; exhibit the ability to create, maintain
and provide quality assurance of the department’s web page; exhibit knowledge
in general office management software including Windows, Excel, Adobe, and other
Microsoft programs; demonstrate project and task management skills; demonstrate
exemplary written and verbal communications skills to function effectively;
must meet all skills, knowledge, and training requirement as that of police
officer position.
