Garbage Service

The City contracts garbage disposal services with outside firms. Currently, Allied Waste Systems, Inc., is franchised to operate within the City of Richland Hills limits. Trash collection days are Tuesdays and Fridays. Recyclables are collected once a week on Friday. Garbage service fees are paid on the water bill.

Effective April 17, 1998 Allied Waste Service began its’ new "TAKE ALL" service. Allied Waste will now take all items placed at the curb as long as they are containerized in a can, bag, or box. Bulky items will now be collected on your regular trash day. You will no longer have to wait for the annual cleanups or take trips to the landfill. Bulky items include furniture, water heaters, appliances, and other large household items. Construction material from smaller home remodeling projects will be accepted as long as they are tied and bundled in four foot lengths or less and do not exceed 50 pounds.

- All trash needs to be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on the regular service day. This will ensure that trash will be picked up whether the resident is on one of the first stops of the day or one of the last.

- Trash should be placed in bags or containers weighing no more than 50 pounds and no larger than 33 gallons. This is for the safety of the drivers. Should you have the need, more than one container can be placed for collection so long as they do not exceed these limits for size and weight.

- Tree, shrubs, and brush trimmings are to be securely tied and bundled and not exceed 4 feet in length and 50 pounds in weight for each bundle.

- Recycle items should be placed in the 18-gallon recycle bin provided by Allied Waste and available at City Hall. If the resident has more recycling than will fit in the container, please place in a paper grocery bag, as they are recyclable as well. If a plastic garbage bag is used, the garbage men will collect as trash and the recycling effort will be wasted.
